Expecting a tall tale of her time away, her old pals gather at their familiar haunt, a sports bar in Chicago's popular Wrigleyville neighborhood. Instead of regaling them with her adventures, however, Catrin retreats to a corner booth and shares her narrative with a sole confidant.

Cat's story begins and ends in Chicago, where she grew up the daughter of lesbian parents. She tells of her education and her studies, and the many degrees she earned while dating an assortment of different men, each of whom brought out a unique part of Cat's personality and made her who she is now.

As her story continues, Cat looks back on the time she wasted in meaningless relationships before she finally met someone she considered the real deal. At first, the man seems her total opposite--an overweight comedian who chooses to leave Chicago to live in Las Vegas, where he has been given a lucrative job. Finally, with trust in her own decisions and a belief in happy endings, Cat follows her lover to the desert and carves out a new life for herself, the man she loves, and the town that welcomes her with open arms.

Nomad's Land is a novel rich in detail. "I wanted to story to be real," Kathleen says. "I wanted to use actual places that one could visit while reading the book." Readers will delight to know that there really is a Justin's and a Launder Bar and a Nookies. "True places and time give Catrin's world a Bloomsday vibe," Kathleen notes, referring to James Joyce's most popular work.

Nomad's Land is a triumph of storytelling that will remain with the reader long after the tale is done.

About the Author: A storywriter since the age of three, Susan Kathleen's early years were spent explaining Ulysses to teachers, hiding her Mensa card, and searching for a way to either fit in or disappear from the country club culture. Kathleen reads several languages, has hitchhiked across the United States to attend more than a hundred Grateful Dead concerts, was educated in Ireland, and now resides in the Midwest. This is her first novel.
